The Hidden Signs of Hail, Storm and Wind Damage

Storm damage can be easily noticeable, especially if it’s extensive or severe. However, without the obvious signs of damage — like significant granule loss and broken or missing shingles — there could be important issues that you may fail to address. That is why it’s always a good idea to call a roofing contractor and have them inspect your roof after a storm.

In this post, Diamond Roofing Specialists, Inc. discusses some of the hidden signs of hail, storm and wind damage.

Hail Damage

After inspecting your roof, landscaping and other parts of your home’s exterior, pay close attention to other flat surfaces. Look for dents in your flashings, which are thin metal barriers connecting the gap between the roof and any vertical object, such as a chimney. Look for blisters on the roof membrane or shingles as well. Blisters are a difficult type of damage to diagnose because they aren’t easily recognized by the untrained eye. A blister is a minor blemish that may seem like a cosmetic issue but could actually lead to serious damage.

Storm Damage

Without water stains and leaks, it is tricky to determine roofing problems after a storm. To avoid costly and recurring roof repairs, check the granules and shingles. Granule loss normally occurs as roofs age, but the loss usually isn’t that noticeable. After a storm, this problem could worsen and become obvious. It’s essential to call a professional to have your roof fixed immediately. On the other hand, lifted shingles may compromise your roofing structure due to moisture infiltration.

Wind Damage

Experts say the usual wind damage appears on shingles around the edges. These shingles loosen with time until the wind can lift them. This damage might start small and go unseen for a long time, but it typically worsens with every windstorm.
